Something to Talk About: “Word on the Street” Podcast.

Recently I’ve been assigned to create a storyboard, based on the “Word on the Street” from Sesame Street TV programme. It some sort like a learning video for kids where they learn a word a day. I’m doing this task with 2 other colleagues – Azilah and Nadhirah.

We picked the word “Mechanic”. As this is a 5-people task and we only got three in a group so we needed to “employ” some additional actors for this video. They were Hawa, Jihan, Tony, Dean, Andrew, Fakri, Aisyah, Joe, Dean together with Syafiq. We are truly thankful to them for willing to spend some time and help us for this... Mucha Gracias.!

We started by outlining the story and then we carried out the shooting. It was a tough work that we needed to reshoot the entire spoiled scenes. The most difficult for me was the scene when I met the mechanic, but I’m thankful that our Mr Mechanic was very cool and helpful. *Applause.

I’m bashful to tell that I was the main character – Miss Interview in this podcast... It was a terrible acting.... Uh! (I wish somebody can take that part instead of me)

The process went well even though there were few difficulties occurred. Actually, we planned to shoot scene with kids in this video to make it more interesting. Plus, this video was made for kids. However, there were no kids found during the shooting day. We waited long and ended up by including an orange kitty. It was not a friendly kitty at first, got to use our skills to try making it stayed calm while we shot its part... *wink

It only took one full day from morning to evening to have a full record of the video. We tried to combine all scenes recorded using Window Movie Maker. This was the hardest part I think and we spent about one night to finish it. During the process of producing this video, I learnt few things.

  • ·         Actually, there are takes that I am not satisfied enough. However, I have no option at all but to include it in the video. Thus, we need more time in doing the shooting and we should have more takes for every scene so that we can choose the best for the final product.
  • ·         The gadgets used such as the cameras and laptop also need to be tested first. We were having problems with this stuff. The laptop hung for several times and both cameras gave such noticeable different output especially on the audio aspect. It caused tense somehow to the group members. My apology.
  • ·         My speaking voice was too low and sharp. After watching all the scenes that we have shot, now I know why people can’t hear me whenever I speak to them. I wish I could reshoot it because I don’t think kids can catch my words. (Covering face with both hands)

However, after all the difficulties and obstacles, we managed to produce the video and submitted it to our lecturer, madam Mahani. I hope she likes the video. This task taught us a lot and gave us good experience on how to produce a video. Hope we can produce better video in the future.

I’m not going to attach the video here and let you see my terrible acting... (:-B) However, these are the scenes of the video produced. Have a look.
